In New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is set to spearhead a protest march involving approximately 300 MPs from the INDIA coalition to the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters on Monday.
The march is scheduled to commence at 11:30 a.m. from the Parliament House, covering a distance of about one kilometer to the ECI office. This demonstration aims to contest the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and to voice concerns regarding alleged electoral misconduct.
Other prominent leaders and MPs from the opposition alliance will accompany Rahul Gandhi during the march.
The INDIA bloc has accused the ruling BJP government of attempting to skew voter rolls in its favor, thereby jeopardizing the democratic process.
The objective of the protest is to urge the ECI to adopt transparent measures and uphold the integrity of voter lists.
Later on Monday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will host a dinner meeting for the MPs of the INDIA bloc.
Additionally, on Sunday, the Congress party initiated an online campaign to rally public support against what they describe as 'vote chori' (vote theft).
Rahul Gandhi took to his X account to encourage citizens to register on a newly established web portal, votechori.in/ecdemand, or to give a missed call to 9650003420 to back the initiative.
'Vote Chori represents an assault on the fundamental principle of 'one man, one vote.' A clean voter roll is essential for ensuring free and fair elections. Our demand from the Election Commission is straightforward – be transparent and publish digital voter rolls for public and party audits,' Rahul Gandhi stated on X.
'This struggle is to safeguard our democracy,' he emphasized.
In a related matter, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Karnataka has reached out to Rahul Gandhi, requesting evidence to substantiate his claim that a voter had cast her ballot twice in the last Lok Sabha elections.
